2/20/2011 - Lansing Pod Tournament: Solaris

We are doing a 3 event Solaris challenge. 600 tons to be divided however you choose among the dates for each month. So you could go all light and medium the first two months and have assaults the last month. Dates are: Feb 20th, Mar 20th and Apr 24th. Points will be won each event and totaled on the third event for a winner the Solaris Champion.

'Mechs, Munchies and Mayhem
We will be doing a dry run for new Merc Company that we will start in January. Bring in your test choices for your mech to test run and make final choice and get any questions answered.

You can choose any mech as long as it is 1200 BV or under, NOT including pilot, mech only. Or Tank! Or VTOL! Or WIGE!

Pilot is auto 4/4.

Tech has to be 3072 or earlier, you can choose stuff from 3075, but has to be in Primitive section, as that is dated much before 3075.

We will begin with the 3072 Jihad era and work our way through to present times, if we survive! We will be using the warchest point system for accounting/repair/purchases, pretty easy and much more laid back than hard core merc rules.

Want this to be a bit more laid back and fun, so will make concessions for quality and enjoyment based on group dynamic,

We will also need a company name, so shoot suggestions. Also a commander is in order. And a second in command, just in case :). We will also want to assign lance commanders. Would like to maintain a true command structure and feel, as will want units to move in lances.

Guys feel free to coordinate unit choices, that would be a good idea, as would be a good idea to compliment each others choices if possible. That is main reason behind December test and tune, bring a handful of choices and we can run some quick test games to try them out and test dynamic with teammates.

Couple or ground rules:
1. Can choose mechs/tanks/vtol/wige. No infantry, to start.
2. Skill point advancement will be by points. 4 pts to drop one point in any skill. Points will be earned by survived missions, with one point being awarded to one pilot per mission who "Outdid" himself.
3. There will be NO pushing/charging/dfa-ing someone off-board. I know it is in rules, but takes away from gameplay in my mind. Kill your enemy the old fashioned way, WHOOP HIS ASS! If you are upset that I took a quick kill away, roll more 12's :)
I am not going to bend on this one, so do not even try.
4. I have not decided on "advanced rules" that we will be playing, I will go over before December 11th. Please post questions or suggestions on advanced rules and I will rule on them. I will respect all input, but realize I will make final judgement.
5. I would like also to rotate who is running scenarios with anyone interested, so I can get my mech in the fray also. So volunteers to rotate also apply.

Gentlemen,

This is just a simple reminder that this Friday will be Scenario Three of the Donegal-based Corporate-Ties Campaign. Mechs, Munchies, and Mayhem
November M3 is going to be on the 20th. We will be starting at 11 a.m. for Tabletop Battletech and then will break for food at 5 p.m., then Unlimited Pod Play for rest of night for $10. Tabletop as always is free.

Also a remider that location is at U.L.X. (Ultimate LAN Experience) on Planfield and 5mile in Grand Rapids.

Scenario will be a oldie but a goodie, will drop subtle hints in future posts, but do not want to ruin the surprise. Also there will be a special prize(s) given away for the TableTop portion, so be there or be square.

Gaming for a Cure at Northwestern Michigan College
This Saturday, at 10:00 a.m., Tom "SteelPimp" Heath will be running the MechGrinder at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City as part of the yearly "Gaming for a Cure" program. So, if you're in that neck of the woods, please stop by and support a worthy cause (the American Cancer Society) by playing some Battletech. This Friday's Rock'em-Sock'em Robot Night event will be a ComStar/Word of Blake free-for-all! We're using heavy class 'Mechs and they all have c3i. You think that c3i is just dead weight in a free-for-all? Well, during this game, everyone can use the benefits of everyone else's c3i computers. So, as long as someone has line of sight to your target--even if they're not attacking your target--you can still tap into their c3i for your attack!

Dusting for Scraps
"The surviving Knights have been on the run for six months when a friendly civilian is taken captive by SAFE. Can the Knights fight their way through the forest defenders to rescue their benefactor?"

Given the nature of these two scenarios, each scenario will be played on four maps using QuickStrike rules, so expect a more strategic, combined-arms game with upwards of 12 to 24 units per side.

Gunslingers Last Stand
This Friday night, we're going back to the fall of the Star League! No. Not that one, the one before the Succession Wars. Anyways, we're going to be pitting two lances of Star League Gunslingers versus a company of Rim Worlds Legionnaires. Better brush up on your QuickStrike rules out of Strategic Ops, it's gonna be a big fight!

Oh, and if anybody can bring the following miniatures: Battleaxe, Hammerhands, Phoenix, Rampage, Xanthos or Firebee, then we can run this game with no proxies!

Catalyst Agent Meet-and-greet
This Friday night, Aaron will be running an Agent "Meet-and-greet" event where we are planning on discussing what events should be run over the course of 2010.

"Come and meet the Agents of the Lansing area. Talk shop and see what the plans are for the coming year, and perhaps put some in of your own. A pick up game will be available for Battletech."

We'd like to use this as an opportunity to gauge interest not only in Battletech, but also see what everyone's interest is in Catalyst's full game line up. As you may or may not know, Catalyst has published several games over the past year: CthulhuTech, Leviathians, Ergo, and Poo, among others.

Since we are currently running three to four Friday night Battletech games every month, this leaves us with room to diversify our game offerings if the community is of a mind to do so. And keep in mind that CthulhuTech is an RPG and both Ergo and Poo are card games, so we're definitely interested in hearing from you non-miniatures wargamers as well.

So come on out this Friday night and let your voice be heard! :)

Medium 'Mech Mayhem on Solaris VII
This scenario will take place in a Solaris VII arena map. We'll be using medium 'Mechs with various tech-levels.

NOTE: Here's the kicker -- read Tac Ops and Strat Ops then bring a couple special rules and ammo choices that you'd like to try out. Before the game starts, every player will list our special rules/ammo and the group will vote on whether or not to use them in the scenario.

Afterwards, be sure to bring a couple bucks for some action in the Battletech pods! Tabletop Battletech is free for all. Playing the pods costs $3 for one ten-minute mission or $10 for four ten-minute missions.

BattleForce Tutorial
We'll be going through a battalion on Level III scenario tonight to better learn the Battleforce rules set. Please join us as we hash through it.

Just your friendly reminder that this next Saturday is our August installment of Battletech goodness in Grand Rapids.

Same start time noon, with buffet of nummies, (remember bring your bevies) at about 4-5ish, then we will finish up tabletop about 6ish. Then will move the festivities to the pods.

As informed by Ghosthawk, you can pay per game which I believe is $1.50/game or pay just a mere $10.00 and play till your hearts content the whole night. You do not have to attend both, you can come for one or the other, we would just love to have you out.
